Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 16, 2026
The short version
- We collectthe information you give us — your email, your dancers' names, event details, photos, and notes. That's it.
- We never sell your data to anyone, for any reason, ever.
- We don't use cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics.
- We don't track your behavior across the web or build a profile of your browsing habits.
- We use your data for one thing: making DanceDay work for you.
Who we are
DanceDay is a free, donation-supported web application built for dance families. We help parents organize competitions, conventions, and performances. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the things we will never do with it.
What we collect
We only collect information that you actively provide to us:
- Account information — your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile photo as provided by Google.
- Dancer profiles — names you create for your dancers.
- Dance information — dance names, genres, call times, costume details, photos, and notes you upload.
- Event information — competition names, dates, venues, addresses, live stream links, dance numbers, start times, scores, and awards.
- Shared content— when you share a dance or event with another user, we store the share record and the recipient's email address.
- Timing signals — when you mark a dance as complete during Dance Day mode, we record the dance number and time so we can estimate timing for other parents at the same competition. These signals are anonymous — they are not linked to your name, your dancer, or your account in any way visible to other users.
What we don't collect
We want to be explicit about the things we do not do:
- No cookies for tracking or advertising. We do not set cookies to track your behavior, serve ads, or profile you. The only data stored in your browser is the standard authentication session managed by Firebase Authentication.
- No behavioral analytics. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, or any similar service to monitor how you use the site.
- No cross-site tracking. We do not track you across other websites, apps, or services.
- No device fingerprinting. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or browser fingerprints for profiling.
- No third-party data enrichment. We do not purchase or combine your data with information from other sources.
How we use your data
Your data is used for one purpose: making DanceDay work for you. Specifically:
- To display your dancers, events, dances, and details when you log in.
- To let you share dances and events with other users you choose.
- To provide crowd-sourced timing estimates during competitions (using anonymous completion signals).
- To populate the competition search so parents can find events other parents have already entered (only event name, dates, venue, and address are shared — never dancer or user information).
- To send you transactional emails (like share notifications) if you receive a share from another user, and only if we have email delivery configured.
Who can see your data
- You — your dancers, dances, events, and photos are only visible to you unless you explicitly share them.
- People you share with — when you share a dance or event, only the recipient you specify can see it. Public event links are viewable by anyone with the link, but they contain no dancer profile information, no call times, and no photos.
- Other parents at the same competition — can see the competition name, dates, and venue through the search feature. They cannot see your name, your dancers, your dances, or any personal information.
- No one else. We do not sell, rent, license, or otherwise provide your data to advertisers, data brokers, researchers, or any third party.
Where your data is stored
DanceDay is hosted on Google Cloud Platform using Firebase services (Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Storage). Your data is stored in Google's data centers in the United States and is protected by Google's infrastructure security. We use Firebase Security Rules to ensure that each user can only access their own data unless they have explicitly shared it.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you want to delete your account and all associated data, contact us and we will remove everything — your account, your dancers, your events, your photos, and any shares you've sent. There is no retention period after deletion.
Children's privacy
DanceDay is designed for parents and guardians to manage their children's dance activities. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13. All data is entered by the parent or guardian who holds the account. If you believe a child has created an account without parental consent, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will update the “last updated” date at the top and, where possible, notify you through the app. We will never quietly weaken your privacy protections.
